Professor J.O. Aremu

Dean of Arts

The current Dean of the Faculty is Professor J.O. Aremu. He assumed duty as Dean of the Faculty on 1st August, 2023. He holds the B.A. and M.A. degrees in History from the University of Ibadan, Ibadan, in 1990 and 1994 respectively; and a Ph.D degree in History and International Studies in 2013 from Ekiti State University, Ado-Ekiti. Professor Aremu joined the services of the University on 1st February, 2001 as an Assistant Lecturer and rose through the ranks to become a full Professor in the Department of History and International Studies on 1st October, 2019. His areas of specialization are: Diplomatic History, Historiography and African history. Professor Aremu teaches courses at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels in the Department of History and International Studies and Peace and Conflict Studies. He has over fifty publications to his credit in reputable national and international outlets. He has successfully supervised thirteen (13) M.A. and six (6) Ph.D theses.

As a seasoned academic, he was a Visiting Senior Lecturer in the Department of History and International Studies, Osun State University, Osogbo, from 2015 to 2016. He has served and still serves as External Examiner (Ph.D viva voce) and External Examiner, Undergraduate Programme in many Nigerian Universities. Professor Aremu is a member of many learned societies including the Nigeria Institute of Management, Historical Society of Nigeria, Global Association for Humanities and Social Science Research (GAHSSR) and Social Science and Humanities Research Association.
