I am delighted to welcome you to this department.  This is the Department of Linguistics and Nigerian Languages.  There are, at present, two units in this department.  Linguistics Unit and Yoruba Unit.  Apart from this, the department also offers combined honours programme for the candidates.  The combined honours offered are the following; Yoruba/Linguistics, Yoruba/English, Yoruba/French, Linguistics/Yoruba. Department of Linguistics and Nigerian Languages also offers courses to students outside the department.  Students from the cognate departments like English, French and Arabic Studies take courses like LIN 101, Lin 102, LIN 107 and LIN 206.  These courses improve the knowledge of language analysis of those that come to offer them. 

Many of our students who have graduated from this department are engaged in various places of works in Nigeria today.  They can be found in banks, government offices, diplomatic areas, places related to language investigations and many more. Many of them are also found in the Diaspora. We are therefore proud of our achievement and contribution to the development of Nigeria.
