Welcome to the Department of Religious Studies

Welcome to the Department of Religious Studies, Faculty of Arts, Ekiti State University, Ado-Ekiti, Nigeria, where the phenomenon of religion in human society is dispassionately studied. We study African Traditional Religion, Islam and Christianity, in-depth, and other world religions also. The religions are studied from historical, philosophical, sociological, anthropological, phenomenological, comparative, literary and theological perspectives.  Our scholars, women and men, are some of the bests in their fields in Nigeria and in the world at large.  They are very committed to the development of their students and their fields.    

The Department runs Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Christian Religious Studies, Islamic Studies and Arabic Studies.  At the postgraduate level, the Department runs Postgraduate Diploma in Religious Studies (PGDRS), Master of Arts (M.A.) and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degrees in African Traditional Religion, Arabic Language and Literature, Islamic Studies, New Testament Studies, Old Testament Studies, Church History, Religious Ethics, Philosophy of Religion and Theology, Sociology of Religion and Comparative Study of Religion.  All the Department’s programmes are fully accredited by the National Universities Commission (NUC) of Nigeria.
