It is my great pleasure to welcome you to Department of French, Ekiti State University, Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State , Nigeria. The Department is one of the pioneer departments in the university. We offer undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in all areas of French studies. All the lecturers in the department are PhD holders. We offer courses such as Translation and interpretation, Language and linguistics, Phonetics, African literature written in French, French literature, Textual Analysis, Laboratory works, African and Caribbean Francophone Literatures,  Stylistics, Lexicology, Pragmatics, Varieties of French and a host of others. Our students are exposed to French and francophone world civilization and current trends and happenings across the world with provision of a well-equipped French Resource Centre. In the Resource Centre, students watch news and other programmes on France En Direct and on other francophone TV and radio stations to keep them abreast of happenings around the world. Our students are encouraged to speak French within and outside the campus. The weekly activités socio-éducatives programme made compulsory for all students of French through French Students Association is an avenue for them to use their classroom experiences to discuss contemporary issues in the society and in their immediate environment in forms of débat, symposium, causerie and discours prononcé. Our students go on one year compulsory immersion programme in Togo, République du Bénin and Nigeria French Language Village, Badagry depending on their choice at the end of their Year Two. This helps in social interaction and deepens their knowledge of French practice.

The Department is a home to other departments such as History and international Studies, Tourism and Hospitality Management, English and Literary Studies, Philosophy, Theatre and Media Arts, Linguistics and Religious Studies. Students of the aforementioned departments are taught how to communicate freely in French with French language speakers. Graduates from the Department are today doing exceeding well in all areas of human endeavors. They are found in universities as lecturers, ministry of Foreign Affairs as Foreign Officers, INTERPOL, Nigerian Army, Navy, Air force, Banks and a host of other establishments in Nigeria. We equally have those that are working in such countries as Canada, France, USA to mention but a few.
